A character-rich mirror framed in an early 20th century Newcomb-Macklin frame, circa 1910–1930. Known for their impeccable craftsmanship and favored by American painters and museums alike, Newcomb-Macklin frames are celebrated for their solid wood construction, hand-carved detailing, and refined finishes. This example, in a warm gilt tone with a softly aged patina, features corner block carving and the suggestion of formerly attached appliqués, now removed—leaving behind a ghostly echo of ornament and a poetic sense of time.
The mirrored glass appears to be a later addition, professionally fitted to suit the original frame proportions. An elegant addition above a console or in a powder room, or layered into a gallery wall for timeless texture.
DIMENSIONS: 33.75"W x 2.5"D x 36"H
CONDITION NOTES: Good amount of cracking to the paint and frame. Two small, drilled holes on the center of the long sides most likely where ornamentation was originally applied.
