A hundred years ago, the meticulously handwoven textiles used to make these pillows were originally grain sacks. They were discovered in Miranda do Douro along the northeastern region of Portugal that borders Spain, the oldest border of Europe along the Douro River. What makes these grain sacks so unique are the vibrant, intentional colors the women chose to weave with. Typically grain sacks were woven in the natural color of the fiber.
